October 2019: Tromsøbadet Listed and a Net Gain of 68 Listings
In October 2019 we finished Connecticut and Lower Saxony, added 85 listings and deleted 17, a net gain of 68. The update also highlights the new Tromsøbadet in Norway and gives the database totals.
A net gain of 68 listings in October 2019 brought the database to a round 24,700 facilities, only 300 short of 25,000. This pool listings update also describes a plan to move the site's maps to OpenStreetMap.
Site news
An avid swimmer who is also an experienced website and app developer has volunteered to help move the site's maps from Google Maps to OpenStreetMap. He will also look into site enhancements we have wanted to make for several years. Changes won't happen overnight: the easiest should appear fairly soon, while the most important and most difficult may take several months.
Listing reviews
In October we finished reviewing the listings in the U.S. state of Connecticut and in Lower Saxony, Germany. A query from a traveler heading to Curitiba, Brazil, led us to add 16 listings, most but not all of them in Curitiba. Work in Zimbabwe added seven more.
Overall we added 85 new listings during the month and deleted 17, a net increase of 68.
In November we plan to review the 17 listings in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania that we had hoped to finish in October. We will then return to Australia to review the 289 listings in the Northern Territory and Queensland. We also plan to update the About Us, FAQ and other supporting sections of the site.
New listing of note
A site user in Norway told us about the new Tromsøbadet in Tromsø. Its own website says it is the northernmost 50-meter pool in Norway. As we note in the listing, we believe it is the northernmost 50-meter pool in the world, 217 miles (350 kilometers) north of the Arctic Circle.
