April 2023: Illinois Review Continues and Two Championship Pools
In April 2023 we reviewed 178 of Illinois's 367 listings, cleared two Canadian provinces and added 53 pools. Our two Pools of the Month are the Tokyo Aquatics Center and Virágfürdő Kaposvár in Hungary.
Illinois took most of our time in April 2023, two Canadian provinces were cleared and we added 53 pool listings. Our update names two Pools of the Month, in Tokyo and in Hungary.
Site activity
We kept working on Illinois in April and got through 178 of its 367 listings. That includes all of Cook County, home to the city of Chicago and many of its principal suburbs. We also finished every listing in Prince Edward Island and in Newfoundland and Labrador.
We went back to Italy as well, where we were able to collect some current data and add a few new pools. We also did a little work in Japan, which had gone about ten years without a review. Both the facilities and their listed details there had changed very little.
In May we plan to continue with both Illinois and Italy.
Pools of the Month
This month we chose two. The first is the Tokyo Aquatics Center, the swimming venue of the 2020 Olympics, which has finally opened to the public. Its two 50-meter pools and its 25-meter by 25-meter diving pool are all open to public swimmers. We first featured the center in November 2020, and our profile of the Tokyo Aquatics Center describes how it was built for the Games.
This facility, which was built for the (postponed) 2020 Tokyo Olympics, seats more than 15,000 spectators and cost over US$ 530,000,000!
