Many Icelandic swimming pools operate on a "flow-through" basis; the water is not recirculated, filtered nor chemically-treated; to prevent the untreated pool water from being fouled, nude, soap showers are required; showering requirements may be enforced by shower-room attendants of a different gender from that indicated on the door of the shower room.
