Most French swimming pools (particularly municipal pools) have a dress code for men: "Boxer" or "gym shorts" style bathing suits are not permitted in the pools; men's swim suits must be either "briefs" or tight-fitting square-cut suits (Speedos® or something like but shorter than "jammers"). But if it has a pocket, it's not allowed. Most French pools also require swimming caps for everyone - even those who are bald. And many require swimmers to bring pool-apropriate footwear ("toe-cutters" or "flip-flop" sandals).
