Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa, Chesterton: An Artificial Open-Water Lake
The Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa in Chesterton, England, offers swimming in a man-made lake rather than a concrete pool. It was our Pool of the Month for August 2021 and the only artificial open-water site we had found.
The Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa in Chesterton, England, caught our attention for an unusual reason: the swimming water is a man-made lake, not a pool. It was our Pool of the Month for August 2021.

Why the Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa stands out
As its name suggests, the property combines a hotel, a golf course and a spa. The body of water there cannot really be called a swimming pool in the classic sense of a concrete tank. It is a dirt pond, and Google Maps labels it a "Performance Lake."

A few open-water sites are listed alongside the pools. The Dolphin Club at San Francisco Aquatic Park has been listed since the site began, and Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts, was added later. As of August 2021, though, the Bicester lake was the only artificial open-water site we had come across.
The Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa was Places2Swim's Pool of the Month for August 2021. Check its listing above for current rates and schedule before you go.
