Facility Notes

The 25-yard pool is called the East Pool. The 20-yard pool is the West Pool.

Bathing caps are required and are sold in the gift shop; "loaners" are not available. Towels are provided; padlocks are not.

Non-member visitors must present valid, state-issued, photo ID and are limited to three visits per calendar year. The YMCA reserves the right to restrict day-pass usage at any time.

The front desk now opens at 6 AM on weekdays, and 7:30 AM on weekends, which makes it possible for out-of-town visitors to participate in early morning swims, which used to be impossible because the front desk opened too late. [March, 2017]

Be sure to check the Y's website ("website", above) for any special pass promotions.

The pools are on the lowest floors; the large locker rooms are above that; the aerobic machines are at street level; and there's a great weight room one floor up from the street.

I just enjoyed two mornings here. The YMCA E-mail contact allowed two free uses on one pass; needed to show the front desk a copy of that e-mail.

Very nice place. Not too crowded on a January Monday evening.

Rating: 6 on a scale of 10. Cool, narrow, crowded, best for laps late at night or mid-afternoon.

By far the best pool I've found for out-of-towners in New York. Pool 1 appears always to be open and dedicated to lap swimmers.

Its one drawback is that it gets very crowded at peak times. As a New Yorker, I can say it is one of the best run lap swimming facilities in the city. The lanes are speed-graded by posted times, the temp is 80º - 81º F (27ºC), and the pool is open for laps all day. I'd give it an 8 or 9.
