If you’re looking for a true 50-meter lap pool in Charleston, the Martin Luther King Jr. Pool is one of the few public options that offers that Olympic-length experience. The pool was set up in 50-meter lanes, ideal for long-course swimmers.
I went on a weekday afternoon around 2:00 PM, and it wasn’t too crowded. I was able to jump right into a lane without having to wait or share, which was a pleasant surprise. There’s a modest $4 entrance fee, which is well worth it for a proper lap swim.
The facility itself is very basic—clean enough, but nothing fancy. It reminded me a lot of a typical high school locker room: functional but not luxurious. If you’re expecting spa-like amenities, this isn’t that kind of place.
One nice feature is the way the pool is oriented: both shallow ends are shaded, while the middle section is exposed to the sun. This means you get a nice balance of light.
