Boll Family YMCA

This is a very nice pool on the lower level of the Y. I shared a lane with one other person one Friday morning at 8 AM but, otherwise, it was one to a lane or fewer during my two other morning visits. The water was crystal clear. There's one digital pace clock at the deep end. The deck and (men's) locker room were clean. The QLine takes you to within a block of this Y and it's free to ride. The lap swim hours posted on the Y's website did not match actual hours, so I recommend calling to confirm.

There were only two or three people in the pool when I went (between 7 and 8 PM). People told me it usually isn’t crowded. The locker room is huge.

I marked it down from 5-stars to 4 because they water was slightly murky.

The area is busy with restaurants etc. It’s very safe for walking. I passed a parking garage and maybe some parking lots nearby.

Great Y. Clean, friendly, and well equipped. Post-COVID no towel service is offered, so bring your own.

This is one of the finest YMCAs in the country. It's a beautiful facility, clean, modern, and nice, with big, bright, open indoor pools, big, clean locker rooms, fresh towels, and friendly and helpful staff. I swim here regularly and have had to share a lane only a few times. The lap pool is almost always available and is kept at a perfect temperature for banging out laps. Next to it, there's a "family pool" with a zero-depth entry at one end that's kept at a warmer temperature. The Y has free, fresh towels and nice locker rooms with private showers. It's a gem!

This is a great pool for anyone staying at the downtown hotels. The Y provides towels (not real plush but they're free and plentiful). Bring your own lock. The men's locker room was clean and well kept. It has a swimsuit spinner dryer. There are kick boards and pull buoys. I was there for about 1½ hours (10 to 11:30 AM) and had a lane all to myself--there were other swimmers that came and went but nobody had to share a lane. A great pool to swim in.

If you'll be visiting Detroit, It's worth checking with your hotel and the Y to see if they have any promotions going on — I was staying at the Renaissance in the GM Building and guests there had free admission until December 2017.

Very clean, well lit, well guarded and two lanes are always reserved for lap swimmers, even during lunch time water fitness and aerobics classes.
