We had planned to start on New York and New Jersey, two states hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. After checking a few listings in upstate New York and finding only a few facilities open, we decided to give both states more time. We also put Italy on hold.
Early in the month we learned that prices had increased at pools in Toronto, where we have over 100 listings, so we turned to the Canadian province of Ontario instead. We have been through more than 100 of its 412 listings.
The results are mixed. Many Ontario pools are operating for members only, with lane reservations required, so there is no drop-in price to ask for. Some are still closed, and some have reopened with their pools closed.
Where we could find pre-pandemic prices, we dated them "February 2020". Where we could not find any, we kept the information already in the listing, which often dates from 2015, and updated the links, telephone numbers, maps, and team and club information. The review also let us remove listings for pools that have closed permanently.
