October 2024: Four Los Angeles County Pools and a Review Form Fix
In October 2024 we spent much of the month vetting user suggestions, fixed a bug in the star-rating review form and kept reviewing Los Angeles County, where we found four pools to feature.
User suggestions kept us busy in October 2024. This pool listings update also covers a fix to the star-rating review form and four Los Angeles County pools that were new discoveries for us.
Site activity
User engagement with the site increased in October, so we spent a lot of time vetting user edits, additions and reviews, and then writing to contributors to say what we had done. Each day we start with the list of changes users proposed in the previous 24 hours.
When you suggest a change, we check everything in that listing, not only the item you reported. If you tell us that a rate has changed or that there is a Masters swim team to add, we also check the address, the telephone number and every link. A listing that someone has taken the trouble to correct is a pool that people actually use and care about, and there is almost always more than one thing to update.
Our programmer also corrected the bug in the new star-rating review system that we mentioned last month. If you do not want to give a star rating, you no longer have to. Click the erase button next to the stars in the Add Review form, and your review will appear without stars and will not affect the average rating shown at the top of the listing.
Listing checks
We are still working through the listings in Los Angeles County, with twenty listings left to check.
Pools of the Month
Instead of one or two pools, we chose four for October 2024. They are all in Los Angeles County, one of the largest population centers in the United States, and we had never heard of them before we found them in October: the Hollywood Pool, the Castaic Regional Sports Complex Aquatic Center, the San Fernando Regional Pool and the Greater Whittier Regional Aquatic Center.
