November 2023: Iowa and Nebraska Done and a New Site Planned
In November 2023 we completed our review of Iowa and Nebraska and began South Dakota. We also described the planned new site, and a large two-pool facility near Hanoi that we could not yet add.
We finished reviewing the pool listings in Iowa and Nebraska in November 2023 and moved on to South Dakota, while testing a planned new site. This month's update ends with a facility in Vietnam that has a 100-meter pool.
Listing reviews
In November we completed our review of the listings in Iowa, finished Nebraska and moved on to South Dakota.
The new site
We kept testing the new site's user feedback tools, and we hope to bring the new site online in early January 2024. It will look and work much like the current site. Behind the scenes, the database is being converted to a new format and the programming that displays the data is being rebuilt. That change is meant to let us:
- keep the site working smoothly as web browsers keep changing;
- add a number of planned new features on a sturdier foundation; and
- create an app for smartphone users.
A facility near Hanoi
While looking for a Pool of the Month, we found mention in a swimming group online of a facility outside Hanoi, Vietnam. It is an outdoor facility associated with a very large housing development in the city of Hung Yên. It has two competition-style pools: one measuring 50 meters by 25 meters and another measuring 100 meters by 25 meters.
We do not know whether it is open year-round or open to the public. The only information we have found is a promotional site from the housing project's developer, which says the facilities will attract millions of visitors. That gives some hope of public access. The opening was planned for October 2023, which suggests it may operate year-round. We do not have enough information to add it to the site yet.
Database statistics
In November we added 24 new listings and deleted 22, for a net gain of two.
- As of November 30, 2023: 26,173 facilities in 211 countries and 14,641 cities and towns.
- Pools: those facilities have 28,759 full-size, year-round pools, as we define those terms in our FAQ.
- Websites:
