May 2020: The 25,000th Listing and Austria and Switzerland Reviewed
In May 2020 Places2Swim added its 25,000th listing and finished reviewing Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. We also share a browser tip for reading the foreign-language websites our listings link to.
This May 2020 pool listings update marks a milestone: on May 18, 2020, we added the 25,000th listing to Places2Swim. We also finished reviewing the listings in Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
The 25,000th listing
We had worried that this milestone might take a long time to reach. Gyms and fitness clubs are closed for the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, and we expect that some of them will not reopen. When facilities do reopen, we may have to delete a number of listings.
Translating foreign-language pages
Many of our listings link to websites in other languages. The latest version of the Chrome browser can now translate a page instantly: when you open a page in another language, a translate icon appears at the right side of the address bar, next to the bookmark star. Click it and choose whether to read the page in its original language or in yours. The translation appears almost immediately, with no need to copy the page address into a separate translation tool.
Listing reviews
In May we reviewed all of the listings in Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, something over 400 listings in total.
Next we plan to return to Australia to review the 284 listings in South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. After that we will move to Scandinavia, covering Denmark, Norway and Sweden, before returning to an English-speaking country.
Database statistics
- As of May 31, 2020: 25,015 swimming facilities in 206 countries and 13,724 cities.
- Pools: those facilities have 27,042 full-size, year-round pools, as we define those terms in our FAQ.
