June 2024: New Places2Swim Site Launches; 13 Net New Listings
In June 2024 the new version of the Places2Swim database went online. We explain the new Suggest change icon, how to report listing changes, and the month's net gain of 13 listings.
The main news in our June 2024 pool listings update is the launch of the new Places2Swim site, which took most of our time during the month. We also added a net 13 listings.
The new site
In June the new version of our pool database went online at its new home, Places2Swim.com. The transition had some hiccups but went far more smoothly than we expected. While setting up the site we revised the code and the administrator's app 300 times, and a few fixes still needed to be applied at the end of the month.
Suggesting changes
The new site puts a "Suggest change" icon at the right of every data line in the detail listings. We replaced the old text prompt "Edit" with it because we thought the icon would be more intuitive. Few suggestions have come in since the new site went online, so we think the icon's meaning is not clear enough.
We have chosen two new icons, one for changes and one for additions, and we will add a legend at the top of the page to explain them.
Reader feedback is a critical part of what makes this site work. Listings stay useful over time only when readers help keep them up to date, so please use the icon to suggest a change to a listing, or add a pool that is missing.
Listing reviews
The site conversion took most of our time in June. We reviewed some listings in Oregon and Ireland, but we did not find many new listings and we did not delete many old ones.
Database statistics
In June we added 23 new listings, deleted 11 and reinstated one old listing that had been deleted, for a net gain of 13 listings.
- As of June 30, 2024: 26,357 facilities in 211 countries and 14,502 cities and towns.
- Pools: those facilities have 28,971 full-size, year-round pools, as we define those terms in our FAQ.
- Websites: 24,981 listings (94.8% of all listings) have links to their own official websites, or to non-official sites we think may be helpful to you.
The site's Top 10 countries have 19,344 listings, broken down as follows, with the change since May:
- United States: 7,772 (+7)
- United Kingdom: 2,210 (no change)
- France: 1,644 (+1)
- Germany: 1,570 (no change)
- Spain: 1,481 (+2)
- Italy: 1,175 (-2)
- Canada: 1,005 (+3)
- Australia: 965 (+1)
- Japan: 901 (no change)
- Poland: 621 (no change)
