June 2021: England and France Reviewed, 30 Listings Added
In June 2021 we reviewed listings in England and France, added 30 listings and removed 30. This update also reports closed Gold's Gym pools in Asheville and corrects our description of the highest pool.
Reviews of England and France filled June 2021, and the directory held steady at 25,660 pool listings. In this update we also correct what we said about the highest pool in the database.
Gold's Gym pools
On June 30 we received an edit reporting that the pools at two Gold's Gym locations in Asheville, North Carolina, had closed. The database lists 90 Gold's Gym locations. We had not yet been able to check them all, and we plan to look into the report further in July.
Site activity
We spent most of June reviewing the listings in England that we had not checked since our last pass through the country in 2015. The DW Fitness chain went into receivership during the pandemic, and most of its locations appear to have been taken over by the Everlast Fitness Clubs chain. We have been contacting those locations to get better information.
As a general rule, we are leaving other private clubs alone and only confirming their website addresses and contact details. Clubs that had welcoming drop-in policies may have tightened them temporarily during the pandemic, and we do not want the listings to show a more restrictive situation than the one that may apply later.
In June a French swimmer began sending us updates for the listings in France, together with information about a lot of new listings there. For much of the month we worked on two tracks, alternating between England and France and handling the changes many of you sent through the Edit forms on individual listings.
In July we plan to resolve the Gold's Gym question and continue reviewing the listings in England.
A correction about the highest pool
Our last update named the new Address Beach Resort in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as Pool of the Month. Our profile said that its largest pool, on the 77th floor at 293.9 meters (964.7 feet), sits roughly 94 meters higher than the pool at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
We should also have pointed out that the pool at the highest building elevation is at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, almost 200 meters higher than the Address Beach Resort pool.
Database statistics
We held the total at 25,660 listings in June by adding 30 new listings and removing exactly 30. Most of the deletions were in England, where we removed 16, and most of the additions were in France, where we added 16.
