July 2019: Map Changes on the Home Page and Listing Pages
On July 15, 2019 we changed how maps appear on the home page and on each facility listing page. This mid-month update explains how the search map now works and what the Targeted Google Map Link still does.
In this July 2019 mid-month pool listings update, we describe a change that regular users will notice. On July 15 the home page stopped loading a map automatically, and the map at the top of each facility listing was removed.
Home page
The home page no longer shows a map automatically. If your browser allows its location service to work out where you are, the page offers a "Find a pool near me" bar. If location services are not enabled, only the "Enter a location to search here" box appears.
Either way, no map appears until you make a choice. Click the "Find a pool near me" bar or enter a location in the search box. As soon as you do, the page returns a map with the pools pinpointed, as before.
Listing pages
We also removed the small close-up map from the top of each facility's listing page. Because it showed only the area immediately around the pool, it was useful mainly to people who already knew the neighborhood.
The clickable "Targeted Google Map Link" in the Location section of each listing still works. It opens a map that pinpoints the facility within the whole town or city, so travelers can see where the pool sits in the context of the community.
