December 2020: 55 New Listings, Yemen Added, Health Club Review Planned
In December 2020 we searched for new pools while pandemic closures made routine reviews difficult, adding 55 listings and our first in Yemen. We also plan to remove permanently closed health clubs.
Pandemic closures shaped our December 2020 pool listings update: we spent the month searching for new pools and found 55, including our first in Yemen. We also describe how we plan to treat health clubs that have closed for good.
Closures and listing checks
Pools remain closed in cities, states and countries under COVID-19 lockdowns, and the financial impact of the shutdowns may keep a significant number of them closed permanently. A significant portion of our U.S. listings are in private health clubs, and several of those clubs have already declared bankruptcy.
Temporary closures have made it difficult to validate the data on our existing listings. In the coming months we plan to identify and delete permanently closed health club facilities.
Site activity
As we mentioned last month, the pandemic made a systematic review of our existing listings difficult. In December we spent most of the month running keyword searches to find new listings and found 55 of them, broadly distributed around the world.
Three of the new listings are in Yemen, which became the 208th country on the site. We also added 21 new cities and towns, bringing that total to more than 14,000.
Pool of the Month
Our Pool of the Month for December 2020 is the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center in Lenexa, Kansas, which stands across the street from the Lenexa Recreation Center. Read why we chose it.
