August 2024: Star Ratings Coming and California Checks Continue
In August 2024 we worked on star-rated reviews for every listing and kept checking California, now in Los Angeles County. Our Pool of the Month is the new Moana Springs aquatics center in Reno, Nevada.
Scored reviews, the first of our planned site enhancements, lead this August 2024 pool listings update, along with the continuing check of California listings.
Scored reviews
We have been working on a way for users to give a facility a score in the review section. Ratings will run from zero to five stars in half-star steps, so a facility can be rated 0, ½, 1, 1½ and so on up to 5 stars.
The average number of stars, and the number of starred reviews it is based on, will appear at the top of the listing. Each individual review will appear in the Reviews section with the stars its reviewer gave. Once we have accumulated enough scored reviews, we can add the stars to the List view on the home page, which will give you another way to choose a pool.
We had hoped to have the tool ready for this update, but we are still working out some wrinkles. We expect to release it within days.
Listing checks
Apart from site enhancements and a few bug fixes, we spent most of the month checking listings in California. With 1,141 listings, California would rank seventh on the site if it were a country, behind Italy's 1,175 and ahead of Canada's 1,007.
We work through the state in alphabetical order, sorting by county and then city. We have reached Los Angeles County and are working on Long Beach. The listings in the city of Los Angeles come next.
