August 2022: Québec, Delaware and Maryland Reviewed
In August 2022 we finished reviewing Québec, Delaware and Maryland and found eighty location notes. We also explain why late-summer maintenance closures are common and how to find a seasonal outdoor pool.
We finished reviewing Québec, Delaware and Maryland in August 2022, and alongside the pool listings update we offer advice on late-summer closures and on finding seasonal outdoor pools.
Late-summer pool closures
While going through listings in the United States, we noticed that closures for maintenance in the last week or two of August and the first days of September are common at pools across the United States and Canada.
We recommend always calling a pool before you go, since a swim meet or other event can change a schedule. In late August and early September there is an extra risk of finding a pool closed for maintenance.
Looking for a seasonal pool?
Under our "eight months per year" listing policy, the directory covers year-round pools, so seasonal outdoor summer pools are mostly not included. Adding a few hundred thousand of them would be a task ten times bigger than keeping up with the 25,000 or more year-round pools we already list.
If you want a seasonal outdoor pool, try searching Google Maps for "swimming pool near" followed by the name of the community. The results show the pools in the area on a map, often with a website, address and photograph for each. Pool maintenance companies appear too, but they are easy to recognize and skip.
Site activity
We completed our review of the listings in Québec, and of those in the US states of Delaware and Maryland. We plan to review the 27 listings in the District of Columbia next, then move on to Scotland and perhaps try for a few more in Italy.
We also kept working on the Country, State, County-Region and City Notes we described last month. We have found eighty so far and are adding more at a good pace.
