Why Sonoma Splash stands out
The main pool is a fairly standard California high school pool, suited to swimming competition and to high school water polo. Alongside it is a warm-water teaching pool, which we had not seen at other California high school swimming facilities.
What brings Sonoma Splash to the fore is how it was funded. The school district paid for most of it, and a non-profit group of citizens raised 1.5 million dollars for enhancements that allow the pool to be open to the public.
In January 2023, only the warm-water pool was open to the public throughout the day. The competition pool had its own public hours, and the plan was to expand them over time.
We seldom follow up leads for pools at primary, middle or high schools, because they are so rarely open to the public. Sonoma Splash was an exception. A user told us about it through our Add a Pool form.
