The Ingleton Outdoor Swimming Pool in the north of England and Arundel Lido in the south are outdoor pools that open in late spring with unheated water. Both heat the water for the summer swimming season and then switch the heating off again for cold-water swimming sessions in the autumn.

Cold-water swimming at the Ingleton Outdoor Swimming Pool and Arundel Lido
Lido is the British English word for an outdoor pool. The Ingleton Outdoor Swimming Pool is in the village of Ingleton, near the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Arundel Lido is in the town of Arundel, in West Sussex.
The two pools follow a similar pattern through the year. They open in late spring before the water is heated. They turn the heating on for the summer swimming season and turn it off again at the end of summer. They then offer cold-water swimming sessions until they close for the winter.
During the pandemic, when many pools closed for safety reasons, open-water swimming in the sea, lakes and rivers became popular with swimmers who could not stay out of the water for long. That water is far colder than a commercial pool operator would normally offer.
The Ingleton pool and Arundel Lido give their customers and members a way to adjust gradually to cold water, so that they can handle a winter swim in the sea, a river or a lake.
