This is a very large prefectural sports facility in Tendo. It’s a bit older, maybe 1980s vintage at a guess, but in good condition. The 25m pool building is not well signed in English on the site, so you may need to use Google to get to the right place. The pool water is not too warm. There are no kickboards or other aids available. One lane is reserved for walking and slow swimming and the rest is available for laps. There were two to a lane or so on a Saturday afternoon. Excellent pool etiquette is observed, and the people are friendly. Everything was clean; nothing was broken. It was a very enjoyable swim. The staff went out of their way to be helpful despite our lack of common language.
The shoe area is just outside the locker room and there are minimal but functional changing facilities (curtained change booths but no benches or hooks anywhere). The use of small, keyed lockers costs ¥100, non-refundable. There are showers on the way to the pool and poolside.
Tendo is a small city, a little north of the prefectural capital, Yamagata City. It is approximately 1.5 km from Tendominami JR train station in Tendo and the route is marked with English signs. Tendominami station is only 5 or 6 stations north of the Yamagata train station. Trains run approximately hourly in the middle of the day. (Note that the Yamagata to Tendominami route does not accept Suica or Pasmo cards for train tickets so you will need to purchase ¥240 tickets from ticket machines for travel in each direction.
