At 8,200 feet, be prepared for some serious deep breathing and a strenuous workout. I believe this is one of the highest altitude pools in the U.S. In Colorado, it is the second most lofty compared to the pool at nearby Breckenridge Recreation Center at 9,600 feet.
The water temperature is comfortable. The black stripe in two of the lanes is off-center. The backstroke flags appear to be mis-positioned.
The pool deck is surrounded on three sides by Colorado blue spruce and aspen. And swimmers are treated to a wonderful view of the mountain range to the south. The locker rooms are spacious, and the club offers free towels.
