Facility Notes

The website referenced in the "Contact & Location" section, above, covers several different locations: This facility, Piscina Fontes do Sar (or Piscina Municipal Fontes do Sar); the Pavillón Multiusos Fontes do Sar, about 250 meters to the southwest of the Piscina Fontes do Sar; and the Complexo Deportivo de Santa Isabel, about 2.7 km. on foot to the west northwest. This may cause some confusion for users (it sure did confuse us), so be sure you understand what you're looking at when reading that website.

The pool is oddly shaped; there are two distinct sections connected to each other: the rectangular lap swimming section, described above, and a grand piano-shaped leisure pool. The lap section could accommodate a sixth lane, but the 3½m connecting point makes the addition of a lane there impractical. Zoom-in on the Google Maps link, above, for a better understanding.

During the summer months, the facility opens at 11 AM. The outdoor lap pool temperature was around 80ºF (27ºC), but only one lap lane was set up. Go early before families take over the lap pool, too. There are no kick boards or pull buoys, The life guard will lend you a mandatory swimming cap.
