This is a beautiful facility, within walking distance of downtown. I swam when the pool opened in the morning and had a lane to myself. Currently (October, 2021) there is a lane reservation system, with reservations for 50 minutes. Mt. Desert Island YMCA's home page ("Website", above) a has a Google doc ("Reserve Pool Lane") that shows the status of reserved lanes, so check ahead. This may change as the COVID pandemic winds down.

It's a very nice facility built in 1999, with a modern pool that maintains high water quality and exceptional clarity. The temperature is kept at 81º - 83ºF. It's uncrowded at 6 and 7 AM on weekdays.
