Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego

The Manchester Hyatt has completely renovated the adult pool so the steps are now along the side and the depth slopes down from the steps to the opposite side. So, it is a legitimate lap pool, ~25 yards long with walls at both ends. There are no lanes marked on the bottom or end walls, but the water is crystal clear and the bottom tiles and walls are easy to see. The pool is open for hotel guests only from 6 AM to 10 PM. It is located away from the fitness center, so I got great morning workouts in with the pool all to myself.

When I stayed here recently, I checked out the adult pool hoping I could use it for a workout. It doesn't actually look 25-yards long and was definitely not designed for lap swimming. The stairs at one end of the pool would make turns very awkward. There are no lane ropes or standard pool markings. I ended up not even getting in - I wouldn't have gotten enough of a workout in.

There are two pools at this hotel, a recreational pool and a lap pool. The lap pool is part of the spa on the Harbor Tower’s 3rd floor. It’s 25y long, but one end has steps, making flip turns a challenge. The three lanes are marked only by an occasional change in the tile at spots about four or five yards apart lengthwise – not standard lane lines. There is no cross on the wall to see for your turns. Still, it’s nice to have a pool in a hotel where you can actually swim laps.
