Long Street Indoor Swimming Pool

On a Saturday before noon, it was surprisingly very empty: there were only five people in the pool. I had my own lane until a group of 20 young adults arrived. Thereafter it was almost impossible to swim without stopping and reminding them to stay on one side.

The showers are functional; the lockers are on the pool deck. Bring your own locker!

If one could avoid crowds, the pool could be a good idea for a spontaneous swim. Be sure to check the website for special schedules (women’s day etc.).

Due to (hopefully temporary) water restrictions, the showers are closed, as are the water taps at the basins in the bathrooms.
Early in the mornings there are very few swimmers. There are no lane ropes but lines are fine. The water is clean and temperature is fine (although it may be slightly to warm for some).
In school holidays there are many families and kids playing in the afternoons. Be careful to avoid collision.
In spite of the above, it is pleasant to swim here.

This Victorian pool was not very busy when I visited on a Sunday afternoon. There were two people leaving the pool when I arrived, and only two others in the pool, the whole time I was there. There is a small children's pool at one end. There are no lane dividers but there are lines painted on the bottom of the pool. The water was warm and slightly cloudy, but the building itself is quite cool, so it needs to be warm. The facility is in fairly good condition although it could do with some maintenance. Due to water restrictions in Cape Town, the sauna is not working and you cannot have showers here.

There haven't been any updates to the facility in the past few years and the lockers and showers are very rundown. The water is warm, foggy, and the pool has no marked lanes for laps. It's an exhausting effort to swim here. It's in a dodgy area.
