On a recent visit to Rochester, a couple of the other day pass swimming pools were closed for maintenance, so I chose to go to LA Fitness; the 5 AM weekday start time worked out really well. I swim for about 90 minutes and often had the lane to myself for my entire workout. The pool has a lifeguard present at all times. The men's locker room includes a whirlpool and steam room.
A few notes to keep in mind, to enhance your experience:
1. Since my visit was for longer than two weeks, I talked to the facility and got a one-month pass. This lowered the cost to about four dollars a swim. Consider this if you are staying more than a few days.
2. The lifeguards take 30-minute breaks, and the pool is cleared during these breaks. Talk to LA Fitness and so you know when these breaks occur, so your swim is not interrupted.
3. Ask LA Fitness for schedule for pool-based classes. During my stay the Aqua fitness class took over the entire pool an hour after opening on Saturday.
