Birmingham seems to not understand the need for backstroke flags or lane ropes! This was the first of three pools I tried in Birmingham. It is the newest, so in that respect it is nice, and the facilities are good. I would say the water was probably about 28º C. - a touch warmer than a normal pool but not unbearable. But there were no backstroke flags, and three double lanes only made it very difficult to do a proper session. (You are expected to swim up one side, move across to the other side and swim back down…) Added to the cheerful mix was a group of not very good swimmers who came in and didn't understand the concept of giving way to faster swimmers. No control by the lifeguards, either. To be honest, I wouldn't recommend it.
