The usual changing village lockers take a £1 coin that is returned. I went for the 7 PM lane swimming hour. The 25-metre pool was divided into six lanes by ropes. None was marked for speed, but when I enquired, I was told that they are progressively faster as you move away from the entrance and to swim anti-clockwise. I shared a lane with one other.
The temperature of the showers is adjustable. Soap is not provided.
Directions to find the pool:
Walking from Wick town centre, cross the bridge over the river. At the roundabout do not obey the sign to go straight on for the swimming pool; go right on a road that will take you to the rail station. Pass the station on your right and go straight on. After about 10 minutes on that road, you will see a building reminiscent of a modern version of the Parthenon. Cross the car park to the part of the frontage that resembles a huge slab. Behind the slab you will find the entrance to what appears to be (and is) a library. The enquiry desk will admit you to the swimming pool. At no stage will you see the words “swimming pool”.
