Facility Notes
After 65 years in operation, on May 31, 2024, the last swimmer swam in the what was finally discovered to be the 23.6-yard pool at the Emma Hood Aquatic Center. The city is working on plans to develop an Alameda Aquatic Center, but those plans are at such an early stage that it's not even certain that there will be an Alameda Aquatic Center. Meanwhile the city's aquatic programs have been transferred to the Encinal Swim Center.
The pools shown above are the dimensions of the new pools being installed in the 2024/25 renovations currently underway. (Before the renovations, the facility had 25y (23.6y?), 6 lane and 20y, 5 lane pools).
During the pool's reconstruction, lead-impacted soil was found beneath the pool deck necessitating soil removal and replacement and delaying the pool's reopening beyond the August, 2025, time frame originally anticipated.
